Neeraj Chopra wins silver at World Athletics Championships,creates history again
Indian Javelin star Neeraj Chipra won the silver medal in the World Athletics Championships in Eugene . Also, he became the first Indian athlete to win any medal in the World Athletics Championships.
His best throw in finals was 88.13m which ended a drought of 19 years of getting a medal in the World Athletics Championships. He starts slowly in the first 2 attempts and throws his maximum in the fourth attempt to secure a silver medal .
Chopra began his journey in finals with a foul and scored 82.39m and 86.37 in his first 3 events , remaining at fourth position .He got his rhythm back in his fourth event and threw his fourth career best score and created history after winning a silver medal for India .
In between , Anderson Peters from Grenadian athlete was in best form and scored three back to back 90 meters throws and won the gold medal with a 90.54m throw of the javelin on his final attempt.
It is not the first medal India won in World Athletics Championships, last time in 2003 Indian athlete Anju Bobby George won a bronze medal in long jump event in Melbourne World Athletics Championships where George jumped a distance of 6.70m to secure a first bronze medal for India .
Chopra also topped group A qualifications for finals where he qualified in his first attempt, whereas , he also remained at second position in qualification round as Anderson Peters hurled a javelin above 90 meters in qualification round .
The other athlete from India , Rohit Yadav was unable to get a medal in javelin throw . He finished his journey in 10th position with a best throw of 78.72m . The 21 year old athlete threw his personal best this year and won a silver at the National Inter-State Championships last month.
